Actions and Responses
This article from the Brandon Daily Sun (April 12, 1913) states that "the woman's suffrage question has become a live issue in Calgary", going on to mention the fact that one of the legislature candidates, George H. Ross, supports giving women the vote. He and the fact that woman's suffrage was a popular topic indicate actions in response to this issue.
This article, also from the Brandon Daily Sun (March 31, 1909), describes how some suffragettes took action to promote their cause. Women were trying to get into the Houses of Parliament, but some were more zealous, as they tried to fight past the many police officers surrounding the building. This article illustrates both the actions taken by the suffragettes, and the responses of the government- sentencing ten of these women to jail.
"Now That We Are Persons" was written by Nellie McClung herself, talking about the aftermath of the Persons Case. This case originated because of the Famous Five's response to the inequality in the British North America act, and ended with resolution: Women are legally included as 'persons'.
